A year of new beginnings and transitions resonates: In the Arabic region springtime has come and produces unforeseen blossoms. Movements like „Occupy“ demand social reorientation. Here and beyond the Mediterranean the stages vibrate with new rhythm. The festival „Voicing Resistance“ is going to present individual artistic voices that will tell about revolution, oppression, resistance and freedom.
With her performance series NO TIME FOR ART Laila Soliman from Cairo documents police and military violence. AALÉEF is a dance performance in which Toufiq Izzediou from Marrakech fights against a fictional audience on stage. The graduates of the Freedom Theatre acting school present their final project WHILE WAITING – a search for solidarity and meaning despite constant stagnation. In SILK THREAD young women and men from the ZOUKAK THEATRE COMPANY from Beirut strive for emancipation.
The performance series DIARIES is brought to life through very personal stories of resistance. In LOVE DURING WARTIME we follow Osama and Jasmins love story and with „REVOLUTION IN X-BERG?“ the young producers of this film. In cooperation with the Union des Théâtres de l´Europe authors from Greece, Italy, Israel and Austria developed short plays which will be brought on stage as dramatic readings. We will also present Mustafa Said, the most melodic voice from Tahrir, and the Hip Hop star DAM in concert.
